Review: Personal experience with ASUS Zenfone Max

It's been more than two weeks since I tried the ASUS Zenfone Max and I'm so excited to share with all of you my thoughts for this phone!

To start off with, as mentioned in my previous post about an introduction to ASUS Zenfone Max, this is my first time in ages using a phone that is not running on IOS system. Therefore, I will do some comparison with my current phone, which is an iPhone 6s.

Appearance

For appearance wise, I would prefer the back of the iPhone 6 Plus as I like the metallic finish instead of the leathery finish.

However, I wold prefer the front and sides of ASUS Zenfone Max. ASUS Zenfone Max has a glossier screen and the sides are simpler as well.

Weight
For weight wise, they feel about the same but iPhone 6 Plus would have an advantage by weighing only 172g while ASUS Zenfone Max weighs heavier at 202g.

Battery Life
One feature that made me really impressed about ASUS Zanfone Max would definitely be its battery life! Not only am I able to charge other phones with it, it can last me a whole day out!

Storage
Another feature that I like about ASUS Zenfone Max would be its removable storage. This would mean that I only pay for what I need to use and not decide my phone's storage space when i purchase it. I can add a memory card to it when needed as it supports memory cards up to 64GB.

Dual Sim Function
As I have two sim cards due to my singtel plan, I really appreciate this function as this would mean that I am able to switch between the two sim cards conveniently, without all the fuss.

Camera's Beautifying Function
With it's pre-installed beautification mode, a lot of time is saved whenever I want to take selfies. From softening of skin, enlargement of eyes to sharpening the jaw, I definitely need lesser time editting my selfies afterwards!

I also really appreciate its low light feature which enables me to take clear photos even at night settings!

Check out a selfie I took using ASUS Zenfone Max!

Speed
For speed wise, I feel that it is still slightly slower than iPhone 6 plus.

Price

However, this is compensated by its pricing.

Priced at only SGD$249 for 16GB, it is much more affordable than an iPhone 6 Plus which costs SGD$1048.

Overall, if you are looking for a more affordable phone, ASUS Zenfone Max would be a choice which is competitive enough!

Do check out ASUS's Official Web for more information about this phone!

Go Bear Dreams

I was reading this article just now and it made me think a lot more about what I really want 10 years down the road.

For those who know me, you all would have known that my family and I just moved in to our new BTO flat half a year ago. From applying the BTO with my family four years ago to renovating and eventually moving in at the beginning of the year, it made me feel the importance of having your own apartment in Singapore.

Therefore, during my self-introduction during my internship last month, I mentioned “Having my own apartment before 25 years old” as my dream in life.

This sounded rather impossible and my colleagues actually commented that my dream was special as it is actually very expensive to purchase a flat in Singapore with rising costs for almost everything.

Assuming the price of your flat to be a typical SGD$ 300k 4 room flat, to purchase this unit, you need a deposit of 10-20% depending on your loan scheme.

That would mean that you need at least SGD$30k- SGD$60k when you are applying for a flat. Also, when you move in, you need to renovate the house as well as furnish it, which can easily go up to SGD$40k.

Hence, you will need to have at least SGD$100k of savings before you can really own a HDB flat, which does not include the monthly montage that you have to pay after moving in to your house.

After listing down all these costs in a lump sum, it sounds really impossible to own a flat in Singapore before the age of 25 (6 more years for me!).

However, after reading a little further past the fifth paragraph in the article: Expensive Singapore- Beat it, I realize that my dream is not that impossible if I start building a savings plan for myself now!

Also, to help me fufil my dream, #GoBearDreams is actually holding a competition where I can win $10,000 CASH funding! No, it is not a loan!

Its actually a contest held by Go Bear for people like me in Singapore to share our dreams and ambition.

Sounds too good to be true?

ASUS Zenfone Max

So excited to share with you all that I just received ASUS ZenFone Max! It's my first time in many years using a phone that is not running on IOS system so I'm looking forward to see what ASUS ZenFone Max can bring to me.

Today it the third day since I received it and one feature of it I must compliment would be its powerful battery life.

I've only charged it once since I received it and it still has 82% as I'm typing this out. With its 5000 mAh capacity lithium-polymer battery, ASUS ZenFone Max is able to provide up to 38 days of standby for an unprecedented amount of mobile freedom.

Compared to the leading competitor’s flagship smartphone, ASUS ZenFone Max's 5000mAh battery offers 2.3X-better talk time and up to 2.7X as much time spent browsing the web. This translates to up to 37.6 hours of high-clarity calls and up to 32.5 hours of websurfing!

Another attractive feature would be its ability to charge other phones. On the first day I receive it, I used it to power my iPhone as I forgot to charge that the night before. I'm really glad for this function as it would mean that I do not need to carry any power bank in future.

Despite being only 5.2mm, ASUS ZenFone Max is powered by a powerful quad-core, 64-bit Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 processor, features LTE Category 4 for fast mobile-download speeds up to 150Mbps!

I'm very in love with the champagne gold sides coupled with the black glossy screen of my phone as it made the phone feels luxurious to the touch.

If you are worried of scratches on your screen or is a bit of a butter fingers like me, you will be glad to know that ASUS ZenFone Max is protected by Corning ® Gorilla ® Glass 4.

Corning ® Gorilla ® Glass 4, being the latest ingenious creation from the world-renowned Corning, is able to offer twice (2X) the drop-damage resistance of its predecessor, a 2.5x increase in retained strength and is 85% less likely to break in daily use.

*Note: phone has a black glossy screen but I edited the colors of the above photo slightly and hence it appeared to be mattified.

Having a 13MP Pixel Master rear camera with a f/2.0-aperture lens, ASUS ZenFone Max is capable of capturing high resolution photos with zero shutter lag. It also has a low light mode which I'm really excited to try out as this would mean having prettier photos without the glare of a flash in low light settings.

Its front camera has 5 MP f/2.0-aperture,  85-degree wide-angle lens and of course, the most attractive feature is its beautification mode which I can use to take beautiful selfies with!

Whether you are looking for a phone to complement casual or business attire, ASUS ZenFone Max comes in Pure White and Osmium black, which are the colors that will never go wrong!

ASUS Zenfone Max will be available from 10 March 2016 at 10 March at IT show, ASUS brand stores, ASUS authorised dealers, Singtel, and StarHub at an affordable price of $249.

Of course, I cannot conclude much about the phone with only three days of usage, I'll

Maifest 2016

As an intern, I wait all week for Fridays!!

Yesterday, ChiewXuan and I headed to La Nonna@ Holland Village as I have a food voucher thanks to the entertainer's app which I will blog about in the next post.

While we were eating, we could see that the streets outside had something exciting going on- loud music, photobooths and many game booths!

When we finished, we headed out and learned that MaiFest was going on!

Well, ChiewXuan and I had never heard of MaiFest but we guessed it was sort of a beer fest!

After reading about it, I learned that it was celebrated for the forth year in Singapore this year!

What is "Maifest" about?

Maifest originated from Brenham in Germany, and has been celebrated every eat since 1881.

After a long and cold winter, the revival of nature's life is the reason for this festival to celebrate the new harvesting season. Being a festival that had a religious significance at first, it became more joyful and colourful, embedding itself as a cultural event to look out for.

Some of the interesting activities planned was definitely the photobooth, where both of us grabbed a few shots and received a free instant printout!

To make up for the night setting, a ring light was set up too. Kudos to the organizers for such thoughtful planning!

After taking our photos, we walked around to explore more of the booths.
One of the games that attracted a large crowd was the "Gelande Quaffing". The queue was too long so we did not participate but here's the game rules if you're interested.

As we head further down the street, we saw another game booth- "Stand A Bottle Up". Since the queue was not that long, we attempted at it.

If you've added me on snapchat (@christinenglt), you would have seen my attempt at it:p <do add me if you haven't!>

Basically, this game involves you using a rod with a ring attached by a string; to lift the empty beer bottle up in 30seconds.

Well, it sounded impossible to me, looked impossible to me, but it was definitely not impossible when I tried it. I managed to lift the bottle up after about 25 seconds.

Chiewxuan was probably a born expert in this and she did it at slight past 10seconds!! Even the person who timed her was amazed.

And of course, we received our attractive prizes!
The prizes included a cup of ice cold refreshing beer, a cup of bangers and mash, entry to a bar nearby where we can enjoy one-for-one beer all night as well as an event flower crown.

For One-For-One beer!

Other than this game, there was a booth providing German Hair Braiding.

Such a pity that I had short hair else I might give this a shot.

Not far away from the hair braiding store, we also saw people competing in the Stein Hoisting booth, where four men had to compete to see who could hold two glasses of beer the longest. The record timing was 19:05 when we saw it and I really wonder whether any machos broke the record after we left.

So this is just a short update on how I celebrated my Friday night :)

How did you enjoy your Friday night?

Thank for reading <3
